The Love Note Duo
The Love Note Duo is Katie Sontag, singer/songwriter, and Jon Brex, stand-up bass player, tied together. Based out of Eugene OR, Katie and Jon have been playing venues such as the Oregon Country Fair, Sam Bond's Garage, Kesey Square, Saturday Market, public parks and private house concerts for the last two years. Almost all original compositions, Katie's songs are uplifting, thoughtful, light, in a style we call "transcendental folk."
Katie Sontag writes songs that are honest and vulnerable. Her vocals, lyrics, and melodic lines capture audiences and takes them on an intimate journey. Her unique performance style combines singer/songwriter with song leader making for an engaging and interactive performance. At Katie's show you will laugh, cry, and make new friends. Her music has been described as "a big hug." She recently released her self produced album Still Breathing in February 2020 and released her first album with collaboration with her first band Temple Under the Stars in 2018. Born and raised in Rhode Island, Jon Brex has been playing the upright bass professionally for 23 years. Trained in Classical and Jazz bass, with degrees from Idyllwild Arts Academy and Loyola University, New Orleans, he lived and played in New Orleans from 2000-2009. He then studied and performed Argentine Folk Music in Santa Fe, Argentina from 2010-2018. Since moving to Eugene in 2018 he founded the Basin St Jazz Trio and became a member of Katie Sontag and the Love Notes. He is also the bassist for smalltime.
Katie Sontag lights up any show as a soloist singer-songwriter, songleader, and bad arse ensemble front Woman; yet pair her up with any talented performer, and her prose elevates even more. Her latest partner, bassist Jon Brex, lends his upright bass chops to underscore her deeply soulful library. This combination is just like the first bright golden leaf in the sea of late summer green.
